TGs consists of 3 fatty acids bound to a molecule of glycerol. Glycerol acts as a backbone that stabilizes fat molecules and prevents their oxidation and breakdown. 
Ethyl Esters, on the other hand, are derived synthetically by reacting ethanol with fatty acids to create a different form of fat. With most fish oil supplements, natural fatty acids are separated from their glycerol backbone and then bound to a molecule of ethanol. This process is called “esterification”. 
Esterification creates a semi-synthetic product that contains higher levels of EPA and DHA than the natural source. This is what’s sold as most Omega-3 supplements you see on the shelf (or online).
Here’s the bottom line. To create Trigylceride Omega-3 supplements, the distilled Ethyl Esters must be re-esterified to remove the ethanol backbone and replace it with a natural glycerol backbone. This process adds to the cost of production, making a more expensive supplement.
Which works better: TG or EE?
The old saying that “you get what you pay for” is especially true for Omega-3 supplements.
