Prevagen vs Adderall – There’s No Comparison

Prevagen vs Adderall - is prevagen like adderall?

If you’ve looked into supplements to help with focus, productivity and cognitive function, then you’ve probably stumbled upon the likes of Adderall and Prevagen online.

Whereas Prevagen is a dietary supplement, Adderall is a prescription medicine for certain purposes. Both aim to improve your cognitive function so you can think clearer, remember better and be sharper in general.

But which one is a better option? Is Prevagen Like Adderall? Do people take Prevagen and Adderall together? Do they come with any side effects?

Prevagen vs Adderall – The Basics

Prevagen is a dietary supplement that’s sold over the counter in some stores as well as online. You get it in two versions, the “regular strength” and “extra strength” version, both coming in 30-capsule bottles.

Prevagen’s manufacturers, Quincy Bioscience, say it’s the “#1 memory supplement” on the market right now. Their target audience are obviously people over 40, however, Prevagen is claimed to work for everyone. It will apparently help you with:

  • Word recall
  • Learning and retaining information
  • Sleep
  • Long and short-term memory

One of the issues we have with this supplement is that it’s not very trustworthy. Their manufacturers aren’t, that is. They’ve been sued in the past by the FTC for making false ads to convince people to buy their product, when in reality, their product wasn’t proven to do any of the stuff they said it does (we’ll go more into this below).

As for Adderall, it’s one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for ADHD in the USA and some other countries.

Using Adderall can help you focus better, get more work done, and nip procrastination in the bud. However, it’s not without its downsides either. As you’ll see in the side effects section below.

The Effects – Prevagen vs Adderall

Okay, so how do these two products work? See for yourself:

Prevagen

Looking at Prevagen’s ingredient formula, you’ll see that it only contains two active ingredients, with the rest being all fillers and “other ingredients.”

The active ingredients in Prevagen are vitamin D and a fancy-sounding Apoaequorin. It’s clear that vitamin D is just the supporting ingredient here – Apoaequorin is what’s supposedly behind Prevagen’s amazing memory benefits.

But here’s the shocker… science is yet to prove that Apoaequorin works. In fact, there’s no concrete, legitimate evidence that would make us believe all the claims that Prevagen’s makers have made about this supplement.

So essentially, Prevagen only has one ingredient that works – vitamin D. But it’s unlikely to help you much on its own. It’s better to take a combination of ingredients that are proven to help cognitive function to really notice the benefits.

Adderall

Adderall works by stimulating your central nervous system, much like caffeine, but in a different and more powerful way.

It increases the amounts of available dopamine in your brain. The result: you feel more awake, energized, sharper, and motivated to get to work.

Unlike Prevagen, Adderall really works, but there’s a big price to pay for that. Most users who’ve ever taken Adderall have reported side effects, ranging from milder ones to really severe ones (we’ll list them below).

And science corroborates this, showing that Adderall can be addictive and lead to withdrawal symptoms. The longer you take it the more you’ll need. Making it easy to become dependant.

Side Effects

Prevagen is a supplement with no effects, positive or negative. It’s a supplement that doesn’t do anything. Except for vitamin D which is a basic nutrient, it doesn’t have an ingredient that would make a noticeable difference in your memory, cognitive function or anything else.

Adderall, on the other hand, comes with a long list of side effects. Here’s just some of the common and less common ones:

  • difficult, burning, or painful urination
  • fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  • frequent urge to urinate
  • Chills
  • cough
  • headache
  • hoarseness
  • diarrhea
  • general feeling of discomfort or illness
  • joint pain
  • loss of appetite
  • muscle aches and pains
  • nausea
  • fever
  • runny nose
  • shivering

Ultimately, you should talk with your doctor before taking any kind of supplement or product that can affect your brain chemistry, especially Adderall.

Conclusion on Prevagen vs Adderall

Prevagen is a supplement full of empty promises. It claims to boost your memory and cognitive function but we don’t see how it can do that. Its only two ingredients are vitamin D and Apoaequorin, none of which are powerful enough to have these effects. Unless you’re severely deficient in vitamin D, in which case you might notice some benefits.

As for Adderall, its benefits aren’t worth the side effects. The potential for developing dependency and serious side effects is pretty high.
